On Saturday October 4th, 2025 Bowie Wireless Association enjoyed a day of food, fellowship, and radio! Twelve attendees (members and guests) enjoyed a day at the Patuxent National Wildlife Refuge activating park US-0334 (Patuxent National Wildlife Refuge). Scott DeMatteo (W3GTR), frequent POTA activator, visited and also activated the park. Operators used the Club's callsign, K3BWA, to make contacts with stations across the United States and Canada. Four operators KC3DW (Doug), N3ADF (Jim), and Jason K3JSJ (Jason) made voice (single sideband) contacts. Rich (KE3Q) worked stations using Morse code (CW). The highlight of the afternoon was K3JSJ (Jason) contacting W3AAX (Jason Johnston), who is the founder and president of Parks on the Air.
To learn more about Parks on the Air check out our 'Getting Started in POTA' webpage. We are forward to our next POTA Picnic in Spring 2026.
If you enjoy spending time outdoors, socializing with others, or operating or learning more about radio, please consider joining us at our next monthly meeting.
Join the Bowie Wireless Association for a delightful picnic and activation event! We welcome everyone; however, please note that attendance is limited to 25 people on a first-come, first-served basis. We will provide a meat along with silverware and plates. You are welcome to bring drinks or additional food items to share if you wish. We look forward to enjoying a great time together!
